"Freedom and peace are not inherent virtues; they are acquired social conditions which must be planned and cultivated to prosper and live. Our fine forbears could not build institutions which would guarantee them to us. Their progeny, we must do our part ..."
(Herbert Lewis Frank)

The study of international integration and federalism has gained attention throughout the world due to the proliferation of international organizations and the development of the European Union. AUD and the Ashburn Institute, as advocates of a democratic international federation, believe strongly in the importance of supporting these studies and contributing to the evolution of this new international order.

In 1991, AUD created the Frank Educational Fund to provide direct support to students involved with graduate study in the field of international integration and federalism.  Since then, more than 100 scholarships in the amount of $500.00 to $2,000.00 have been awarded to graduate students from the US and abroad for their research projects
